MATTHIEU GAFSOU
Born in 1981 in Aubonne, Switzerland.
Lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland.
After earning a master's degree in cinema, literature, and philosophy, Matthieu Gafsou studied at the Vevey School of Photography. Since 2006, he has participated in numerous exhibitions and has published eight books, including:
Vivants, Atelier EXB in 2023; H+, Kehrer Verlag & Actes Sud in 2018; Only God Can Judge Me, Kehrer Verlag in 2014; Sacré, ed. IdPure, in 2012; and Alpes, ed. 19/80 editions in 2012.
In 2014, with Only God Can Judge Me, he presented a solo exhibition at the Musée de l'Élysée. At the 2018 Rencontres d'Arles, his work on augmented humanity, "H+," was among the highly acclaimed exhibitions. This exhibition was subsequently exhibited in numerous countries, including China, Australia, Italy, Ireland, Spain, and Switzerland.
Over the past 15 years, his work has been featured in some fifty exhibitions worldwide.
Since 2012, Matthieu Gafsou has taught at ECAL and has been a member of the MAPS agency since its creation in 2017.
In 2009, he received numerous awards, including the HSBC Foundation Prize and the Ruinart Prize in 2022.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Number of participants: 6 to 12
- Begins: 10m on thursday
- Ends: 6p.m. on Friday
- Location: historic center near the Arles arena
- Access : stairs. 3 floors.
GOALS
- Learn the various steps involved in creating a photo series
- Develop a point of view based on a selection of photographs
TEACHING METHOD
- Teaching staff : a professional photographer, helped by an assistant from 6 attenders
- Workshop held in both French and English :
Collective parts in French with a translation for non-French speakers.
One-to-one interviews could be in English.
EQUIPMENT
- Mac computers
- Contact prints (6x4 in.)
- A photo library (app. 500 references)
EVALUATION
- Private end-of-course interview and evaluation
- The instructor continuously evaluates the personal series
- Oral end-of-course evaluation
