This immersive course takes participants on a quest for their own photography, revealing as much about them as about others, the near, the far and the moment before or after. The intense five-day course is open to all but especially to those who want to deepen their personal approach and develop their photographic language.
Martin Bogren will discuss their earlier work and share methods and approaches, and guide the participants through their means and intentions.
They will undertake a personal project which aims, beyond making a series, to develop an individual language and to trust their hunches.
The course will focus on content more than technology, alternating between individual sessions and group discussions about the projects underway. Thought and editing processes will gradually give shape to a body of work. The course will seek to develop the participants’ presence in their own photography, and encourage them to assert their ways of seeing.
WORKSHOP IN ENGLISH
MARTIN BORGENMartin Bogren (b-67) is a Swedish photographer based in Berlin. Over the years, his work has been built through several long-term projects devoted to a personal approach.Encounters during travels (Notes, 2008, Italia, 2016), joy of first discoveries (Ocean, 2008), or even adolescent spleen (Lowlands, 2011, Tractors boys, 2013, Embraces, 2014): his series reveal the impatient desire to escape boredom, to discover somewhere else. He approaches his subjects with the distance of a mute witness, a subtle and benevolent observer, and combines through his grainy black and white photographs, all in shades of gray, a documentary approach and a sensitive affirmation of his subjective vision.Martin has been a member of Galerie VU' in Paris since 2013 and a member of the Temps Zero collective since 2018.Winner of numerous grants and national prizes in Sweden, his work is regularly exhibited internationally and is included in several prestigious collections – including those of the Forografiska Museet (Stockholm), the Oregon Art Museum (Portland) and the National Library of France paris). He is the author of several highly acclaimed works, including: Tractor Boys (Dewi Lewis), Italia (Max Ström) and August Song (L’Artière).www.martinbogren.net
