This workshop is open to all, provided that you have a sufficient photographic portfolio to create a coherent series of images. Please send us a selection of about twenty photographs or a link to a website via email at stage@rencontres-arles.com. Confirmation of participation will be sent within 7 working days after receipt of the photographs.

Three days that will prove invaluable for taking stock of your practice and making a careful selection of a photographic project or portfolio. From a large collection of photographs brought by each participant, the approach will consist of making precise and judicious choices that will structure a personal body of work.

The process will begin with discussions about experience, desires, and personal objectives. The aim is to better understand one’s own intentions, put words to them, to clarify choices and ultimately learn to exclude. To control and organize what one wants to show and make intelligible, one must know how to exclude often a significant number of photographs.

In this search for coherence, the destination of the photographs will also be discussed, who they are intended for, and the medium through which they will take form.

Through trial and error, session after session, and decisions leading to selections, a red thread will emerge, and a coherent series, both in content and form, will take shape.

Depending on the nature of the projects and the progress of the work, time may also be dedicated to writing, reflection on spatial arrangement, or layout. The creation of a few additional shots may also complement and extend the process.

The workshop is held in French
