Replica 11/3, facing the disaster (Répliques 11/3, face au cataclysme)

Year after March 11, 2011, the catastrophe still shocks and challenges a new generation of photographers: how can images convey a nightmarish reality? What role should the photographer play? How can we show the invisible threat of radioactivity? How to evoke the trauma but also the resilience and the reconstruction? The result is documentary images showing the violence of the devastation and the desolation of the site, but also artistic gestures revealing signs of resistance. The visual power of these images speaks of reconstruction and reinterprets the status of the medium: they capture the ephemeral to reveal a collective memory. The thirteen photographers presented here speak of subjects that shake our modern societies: territory, ecology, disappearance, population displacement, urban and societal transformations...
